Hi there. I'm new to this forum.  I would hope to get help regarding a long standing unresolve questions.  Huh
I'm a 23 y/o Singaporean chinese male and have been a buddhist since childhood. I have the aspiration and desire to enter into monastic life when i was 18y/o. However I do not have any close afiliation with any buddhist temples, organizations, tradition or order, thus I'm not sure where can I get more information regarding taking up renunciation in Singapore. I've been studying n exploring buddhist studies and practices as a child but am not sure where to get to know the local buddhist community better.
Any advise? I've been given negative feedbacks from other buddhist friends when I bring up the issue of taking up renunciation. Please Help. Thanks

Hello!
Me too, i also wish to be ordained, but at the very least i 'm more fortunate as i am close to a temple which i went since 13. So at least i knew quite a few ven. But not locals, because they come here as a permit holder. Buddha has laid down rules and requirements for those wish to be ordianed, here share with u a bit. 1)He/she must not escape from government labour or recruit, e.g run escaping from national service, that is escaping from anything that intacted to the government. 2) He/she must not be debted, running escaping from debtors. 3)He/she must be a well-being a healthy one. 4)He/she is a physical and mentallly well and healthy male or female, not those having both sexual characteristics, eunuch, also well-bodied with every organs; legs, arms, hands, ears, eyes all to be okay. 5)He/she must not committed offences from the country. 6)He/she must not commit the five sins; killing father, killing mother, killing arahants saints, destroy the peaceful harmonious sangha community, destroying or killling the triple gems. and for the rest i have maybe forgotten but for the above is just a brief statements that i recollected from my learning memories. If u are serious in ordaining to be a monks i think u need to seriously first to have some savings for robes and alms and monks necessities when u ordain, ur masters may help u to prepare. then, u need to find one whom u think is suitable and affinity with him, considering if he is suitable to be my master, then u will need to approach the temple to ask, maybe the office counter. But if u learn buddhism of the tibetan then i not really sure of their ordaing system. but for theravada or the mahayana system i think u need to seriously considers who is the most appropriate and u revered and u think there will be affinity with u before u really approach the temple offices counter. Hope ur wishes be fulfilled. This is all for what i know. Hope that i could attend ur ordaining ceremony if possible. Sadhu!Sadhu!Sadhu!

Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!

We just conducted a briefing on ordination some time in June, after Vesak. Some of the aspirants even had a session with the Abbot, Master KwangSheng, and he gave them some advices on going forth.

In general, you would want to find a venerable whom you can relate to and connect with; someone whom you can learn from and who is able to teach you.

We are conducting a short-term novice-monk retreat this end of November. Registration is however closed, so what we can do is for you to come down for the Q&A on Taking Refuge in the Triple Gem and the Five Precepts this Sunday, 14th October 2pm, @ Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery. Please contact Billy or Sabrina @ 68495346 and get more info. If you wish to, we can then sit down and have a chat after the Q&A on your wish to ordain.

Meanwhile, you may find one of my blog post a relevant read How much would you give? Some of the comments and replies may also prove useful.

With metta,

Sik Chuan Guan.

Hello!Amitabha!
I have questions on singaporean ordaining as monks. I know that if  anyone after ordaining as monks can go to the SIR to apply adding one dharma name on the nric but do they need to go back for reservice (if male) after fufilling the 2 year basic national service, which also fufilling one of the rules laid down by the buddha that one wishes to be ordianed should not escaped from the national liability? As by then one is officially recognise by SIR as religious man do they need to be going back for reservice? Thanks!
