  • “法门寺舍利之谜:唐代国王及其对佛指舍利的供奉”英文学术讲座.

    4月21日(星期三)下午两点,本院在藏经楼举办了一场以“法门寺舍利之谜:唐代国王及其对佛指舍利的供奉”为主题的英文学术讲座。演讲者是沈丹森博士。我院师生共同参加了这讲座。

    沈丹森博士是在纽约市立大学巴鲁克学院亚洲历史和宗教副教授。目前,他是那烂陀室利佛逝中心,新加坡东南亚研究所的访问高级研究员。他对佛教、中印双边关系、印度洋贸易及丝绸之路考古有特殊的学者兴趣。

    沈丹森博士在讲座中谈到了几个要点,比如中国早期佛教、形像和其他文物的重要性、佛教舍利扮演的角色和舍利供奉在中国的演变,才进入探讨“法门寺舍利之谜” 的主题。 由于这个主题有趣,所以在问答时段听众发问了许多问题。讲座在兴高采烈的气氛下结束。

    On 21 April (Wednesday), Dr. Tansen was invited by Buddhist College of Singapore (BCS) to give an English talk on “The Mystery of Famen Monastery Relic: Tang Rulers and the Veneration of the Buddha’s Finger Bone”. Lecturers and students from BCS attended the talk.
    Dr. Tansen, is an Associate Professor of Asian History and religions at Baruch College, The City University of New York. He is currently a visiting senior research fellow at the Nalanda-Sriwijaya Centre, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Singapore. He has special scholarly interests in Buddhism, Sino-Indian relations, Indian Ocean trade and Silk Road archeology.
    During the talk, Dr. Tansen touched on several main points such as Early Buddhism in China, Importance of Image and other Artifacts, Role of Buddhist Relics as well as the Evolution of Relic Veneration in China before going on to the Mystery of the Famen Relic. The topic about the Mystery of the Famen Relic was interesting and many questions were raised during the question and answer session. The talk ended on a lively note.
