Venerable Dr. Chuan Sheng

Vice-Rector (Academic Affairs and Advisor) / Associate Professor, Full-time

Venerable Chuan Sheng obtained his BA (Honours) in History from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and PhD in History and East Asian Languages from Harvard University. Specializing in Asian history and East Asian international relations, he was an academic staff of NUS for 26 years, before receiving his higher ordination in Taiwan in 2013.

Currently training under his ordination master, Venerable Kwang Sheng, at Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery, his interests in Buddhist Studies include Pure Land Buddhism and mindfulness meditation. He is Associate Professor Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs. In June 2018, he was redesignated as Vice Rector (Academic Affairs and Advisor).

Venerable Dr. Chuan Qing

Assistant Professor, Full-time

Venerable Chuan Qing ordained in 1996 and received higher ordination three years later in Yunmen Monastery, Guangdong Province under Venerable Fo Yuan. Between 1999 and 2001, he studied Buddhism and monastic regulations and liturgies in Yunmen Buddhist College and thereafter entered the Buddhist Academy of China.

In 2005, Venerable Chuan Qing embarked upon a journey in learning English and in 2007, he went to the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka for further studies. Subsequently, he completed his PhD at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London in 2015. Following that, he joined the Buddhist College of Singapore in 2015.

Venerable Dr. Rangama Chandawimala Thero

Venerable Dr. Rangama Chandawimala Thero

Associate Professor, Full-time 

Ordained as a Sri Lankan Buddhist monk in 1983, Venerable graduated from University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, in Buddhist Philosophy in 1994. He obtained M.A. in Buddhist Studies from PGIPBS, Sri Lanka in 1997 and PhD from the University of Hong Kong, 2008. He holds a Dip in Ed. from University of Colombo and has been a Dhamma educator since 1996.

Award-winning Publication: “Bodhisattva Practice in Ancient Sri Lanka with Reference to the Abhayagiri Fraternity” 1st prize; Third Korean Conference of Buddhist Studies, 2006.

Venerable Chuan Hang

Lecturer, Full-time

Venerable Chuan Hang obtained a BA and an MA before he became a monk. He received his higher ordination in Taiwan in 2013. Currently training under his ordination master, Venerable Kwang Sheng, at Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery, his interests in Buddhist Studies include Pure Land Buddhism and mindfulness meditation.

He joined BCS as Class Mentor in 2014 and became a lecturer in 2016.

纪赟博士

Dr. Ji Yun

Deputy Dean of Academic / Chief Librarian / Associate Professor, Full-time 

Dr. Ji received his B.A. in Literature from Anhui Normal University in 1996, M.A in Literature from Inner Mongolia University in 2003 and PhD from Fudan University in 2006. During the writing of his doctorate dissertation, his research encompasses the study of Buddhism within the philological studies of Buddhist written texts, collecting of biographical materials of monks and the anthropological studies of religion. Eventually, his dissertation “A Study on the Biographies of Eminent Monks” was published in early 2009.

As a fulltime lecturer of BCS, Dr. Ji is now engaged in teaching subjects such as Buddhist Literature, Institution of Buddhist Sangha and Buddhist arts. Dr Ji also assists in overseeing the operation of the college’s Academic Office and the Monastery’s library. Details

陈文丽女士

Ms. Jacqueline Tan

Senior Lecturer, Full-time

Ms Jacqueline has more than a decade of teaching experience.  She has a business degree from James Cook University and a Diploma in TESOL from London Teacher Training College.  In 2014, she pursued her part-time postgraduate studies at the National Institute of Education in NTU and graduated with a Master of Education (English Language) in 2017.  In Buddhist College of Singapore, Ms Jacqueline teaches English as Second Language and Academic English.

Venerable Chuan Xiong

Vice-Rector (Academic Affairs and Dean) / Senior Lecturer / Chief Editor (Awaken Magazine), Full-time

Venerable Chuan Xiong was born in Henan Province, China and received his ordination at White Horse Monastery of Luoyang in 1993. He studied at Buddhist College of Minnan (Xiamen) and Buddhist Academy of China (Beijing) from 1997 to 2003. He received his MA and M.Phil degree (Buddhist studies) awarded by Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhism Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, in 2006 and 2009 respectively.

He joined the Buddhist College of Singapore (BCS) in June 2009 and was appointed as the Dean of Academic Affairs in 2012. He is also the Chief Editor of Awaken Magazine (Mandarin version). He was appointed as Vice-Rector (Academic Affairs) in June 2018.

长清法师

Venerable Dr. Chang Qing

Assistant Professor, Part-time

Venerable Dr. Chang Qing, a Singapore Buddhist monk, he ordained in 1989 after he graduated with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Singapore Polytechnic.  He hold a BA in Chinese Literature from the National Taiwan University (1993), PhD in Buddhist Studies at the University of Bristol (UK, 1998).

He had published several English/Chinese articles and attended several International conferences. He also gave papers for seminars in UK and Singapore. Venerable Dr.Chang Qing gives Dharma Talk and conducted English/Chinese Dharma Classes whenever he is available. Currently he lectures in areas such as Prajna and Madhyamaka Thought in India, the Philosophy of Three Treatise etc.

李凤鸣博士

Dr. Lee Foong Ming

Assistant Professor, Full-time

Dr Lee Foong Ming graduated from the National University of Singapore and did her postgraduate studies in Buddhist Studies in the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. She specialized in Sarvastivada Abhidharma and received her PhD degree after seven years of studies.

Since joining BCS as a full-time staff in 2015, she has been teaching courses on history of Buddhism and Abhidharma in BCS. Her academic interests in recent years have also expanded to include interfaith dialogues, and Yogacara studies.

顧偉康先生

Mr. Gu Weikang

Associate Professor, Full-time

Mr. Gu was part of the first cohort of MA graduates from Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. He has traveled to Harvard-Yenching Research Institute, Harvard University as a visiting scholar, specializing in research in Chinese Buddhism and is also the author of numerous articles and books.

A lecturer with many years of experience, Mr. Gu was the former chief editor for The Buddhist Association of the USA and research fellow of the Institute for Advanced Studies of World Religion.

Edwin Teo Chye Kiat  

Senior Lecturer, Full-time

Edwin joined BCS in 2022. He is an alumni of the Singapore Institute of Management where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Economics) (2nd Class Upper Honours) awarded by the University of London. He has been teaching English language since Year 2000.
